Pianist - Composer - Teacher

Born in Flanders, Belgium, Hans Bosma grew up surrounded by music, from the operas of Puccini and Wagner to the jazz of Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. His passion for the piano emerged early, leading him to study at the Conservatory of Bruges. Quite soon, he discovered the joy of improvisation and the freedom of playing “what is not written on the score.”

It was only after a first career as an international lawyer, where his expertise of the jurisprudence of the European Court of Justice was highly valued, that he decided to follow his childhood dream of becoming a professional musician.

He deepened his improvisational language at the Bill Evans Piano Academy in Paris, studying with jazz pianists Philippe LeBaraillec, Bruno Angelini, and Étienne Guéreau. And he also reconnected with the emotional depth of the Romantic tradition - Brahms, Chopin, Rachmaninov, and Scriabin – guided by Armenian pianist Nelly Mart, who encouraged him to open his musical souland unite discipline with freedom.

In 2008, he recorded Live at La Tentation in Brussels, an album of jazz standards in trio with Frédéric Debraine (bass) and Julien Charbonnier (drums). His encounter with dancer, choreographer, and ceramic artist Kimiko Otaka led to Terra Incognita, a performance of improvised contemporary music and dance, presented in Paris in 2014 and 2016. He also found inspiration in modern painting, composing Genesis 32:31 based on a painting by Lee Lozano.

In 2025, he reveals a deeply personal musical language with his first solo piano album, Can We Love Again.

Since 2010, he has also been a passionate piano teacher, guiding young and less young pianists as they explore the joy of music and improvisation.
